CHURCH BACKGROUND

Central Baptist Church is a historic Texas Baptist church located in the heart of Livingston, 75 miles north of Houston.  While less than 6,000 people live within the city limits, approximately 50,000 people live within a 20-minute drive of the church, including the growing area around Lake Livingston, the second-largest lake in Texas.  Central is the largest Southern Baptist church in Polk County, one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas.  We are blessed with a multi-generational church body.  Ministries include Sunday morning and weekday morning Bible studies, ESL classes, youth discipleship, and various children's activities. As a church body, we are committed to preach, teach, and live the gospel for the glory of God.

Central Baptist Church maintains its local autonomy, and is affiliated with the Unity Baptist Association, Texas Baptists, Southern Baptist Texas Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.  We believe in the authority of scripture and redemption through Christ alone.  We seek to be involved in the work of God's Kingdom locally, regionally, and internationally through active missions involvement.  Our average Sunday morning worship attendance is 300.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

*  Exhibit the characteristics of a pastor as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, and the Fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23

*  Maintain a commitment to the Baptist Faith and Message

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

*  Hold a Master of Divinity or comparable degree from an accredited seminary

*  Five years of experience in a Senior Pastor or comparable role

FORMAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Preaching and Teaching

Our Senior Pastor shepherds the church by serving as the primary preacher and teacher of the Word of God and by providing pastoral care to its members.  He equips the church to reach and minister to its community for Christ.

Leadership and Administration

Our Senior Pastor serves as the primary spiritual and administrative leader of the church, overseeing the church staff and the ministries of the church.

Personal Example

Our Senior Pastor must be born again and believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential to salvation. Both he and his wife must be called to ministry together in their respective functions.  He must not be ashamed of the gospel but believe in the sufficiency of scripture in all things that pertain to life and godliness.  He must feel a burden for the lost and see the world as our mission field.  He must be a humble servant with a love for all people.
